croup is crap

my sewing has pretty much been non existent this last few months.  At our last Guild meeting a couple of weeks back, I took all of my sewing stuff and machine and only managed to fanny around with the layout of some blocks for the entire day.  So this past weekend, I made myself get a grip and get a move on with some really late bee blocks and also Laughing Boy had promised a full sewing day for me on Sunday so I had to make the most of it right?

So, Daniela from the Modern Mavericks wanted 2 pink wonky triangles on a grey background. I made 3...

The ever patient Judy from QATWII wanted sherbert colours (and a 14" block)...she got flying geese in maybe a little brighter colours than she had hoped for...

The bulk of this block was made on Saturday when the wee man was on a marathon afternoon nap.  By Saturday evening,  it was clear that this was because he was not very well.  By Sunday evening, we were in A&E as he was struggling to breathe.  He was diagnosed with the very Victorian croup, given some stuff and is now breathing easier but super clingy. The crappiest thing about croup, you ask? The Peppa Pig marathons!  My soul is slowly decaying....

Anyhow, I have some serious plans for this week (if all goes well).  I have a 1st birthday quilt to finish before Saturday so I can give it to the young lad on his second birthday #laterthanidhopedobvs.  And I've kind of promised some seriously complicated PP blocks for a couple of bee recipients #probsnextweek. Oh and my teaching starts this week so not much on then...

Two

Not much sewing going on at this end.  Other things have taken centre stage.  My wee man turned two today....time has just flown by from this...

to this....
I could eat him with a spoon!
I have been organising a national conference at work which was held last week and his auntie Sylvie came over from Amsterdam for the weekend to see him so that meant no sewing time at all. We had a fab weekend.  Since the wee man is at nursery all day today, we had birthday cake yesterday...

my two boys x
A homemade (very adult) birthday cake that we will be eating for a week but check it out...

Dark chocolate fudge icing to the MAX!  I couldn't have any tea last night after a slice.  I'm thinking lunch?

One more gratuitous shot of my little superman....

Can you tell I've been fanning about with the options on Picasa?! Normal services should resume this week #fingerscrossed.

Queen Bee

I knew that once I'd put my list of MUST DOs out there, it would sidle off to a corner and hide under the pile of ironing.  Sadly, I have not been able to reduce the list that much.  August gave me  holidays and family get togethers (all good) as well as head messing and cold sores (not so good). Oh and the Great British Bake Off started again.  So I'm starting the new month with a plan...that I won't divulge, lest it wanders off and befriends the MUST DOs.

We're on Round 2 of the Bee formerly knows as the Kinky Bee (we need a new name but haven't quite got that far yet) and I'm up first as Ms September (let's skip the swimsuit section shall we?).  I have promised to make my lovely niece Grace a quilt and hope to get it done in time for Christmas (this year! stop laughing!) so decided it would be good to enlist some help.  I bought this big pile of Glimma a few months ago
Glimma 20 Fat Quarter Bundle from Lotta Jansdotter for Windham Fabrics COMPLETE
bought from Westwood Acres
(picture from their etsy site)

I'm such a fan of Jess from the Elven Garden that it borders on unhealthy stalking *ahem*.  Anyway, I loved her tippencanoe block as part of her and Jess's How Far Will You Go QAL but couldn't face making the 400 or so 5" blocks I would need so lovely Jess let me have the EQ7 block and I converted it to make a finished 12" block...

much seam ripping needed as I am a numpty sewer today
So the starter block is made and I'm now cutting up fabric to send out to the lovely ladies along with the paper piecing templates.  I'm going to have to make a heap more but they're fun, as long as I concentrate.  Where's that seam ripper gone?
